Japan, once the up-and-coming star for the countries of Asia
NIPPON: As someone who has struggled against neoliberalism, why is it that you have long taken note of the things that former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir has to say?
INAMURA: It’s because Dr. Mahathir’s words have included a strong message that can make we Japanese remember something important that we ourselves have forgotten.
Japanese society westernized after the war, and neoliberalism took hold with the end of the Cold War. As a result, the culture and civilization that the Japanese people themselves developed, along with the shape of the country supported by them, has been disappearing. Dr. Mahathir constantly offered words of encouragement: “Japanese, take pride in Japan’s traditional values!” “Use the power of Japanese civilization to develop the world!”
If I could speak without fear of being misunderstood, I would say that at one time Japan was like the big brother on which Malaysia could depend. In their younger days, it was a splendid older brother, and the younger brother learned many things. Once the older brother got his own household, however, he strayed from the path. His family didn’t have the power to stop it. The younger brother frantically cried out, “Brother, open your eyes!” The older brother should have quickly taken note of his younger brother’s strenuous cries.
THE world should not dismiss any idea, even that of adopting Islamic banking, in the process of trying to solve the systemic collapse of the global banking system, says former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We should examine all ideas, including how Islamic banking can help, not taken fully perhaps, but how it can be adopted and adapted, to create a better, more just system not so open to abuses,” he said.
In his special address to delegates of the two day Islamic insurance conference, Dr Mahathir called the US$700 billion ( RM2.5 trillion) bailout by the US government as mere patchwork and that a new financial system needs to be introduced to replace the current one, which gave so much leeway to banks. THE GOLD DINAR CONVENTION（DEWAN TUN HUSSEIN ONN PUTRA WORLD TRADE CENTRE, KUALA LUMPUR／2003年７月１日）
It is a pleasure to be here today to deliver the
keynote address at this Convention on gold as an
alternative to the traditional methods of trade
financing. Trade can only flourish if the value of
the goods can be easily assessed and paid for in money
or tokens that can be equally easily valued. Otherwise
only the exchange of goods, i.e. barter can enable
trade between different countries to be carried out.
Obviously barter trade is inconvenient as it involves
each party trying to value the goods of the other party
to determine whether he is getting a fair price, when
translated into his own currency and what his market
will pay. Continue reading “ディナールに関するマハティール首相の演説④” »

「THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC CAPITAL MARKET CONFERENCE AND THE LAUNCHING OF THE INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC CAPITAL MARKET WEEK AT THE SECURITIES COMMISSION」（2002年３月26日）
Thank you for inviting me to officiate at this
International Islamic Capital Market Conference and to
officially launch the Islamic Capital Market Week, an
event which is jointly organised by the Securities
Commission and the Asian Strategy and Leadership
Institute. Let me also say a warm welcome to the many
foreign speakers and participants at this conference.
I hope you will find time to see and experience for
yourself the peace, stability and prosperity of
multiracial Malaysia. By the time you leave Malaysia,
I hope that you will be convinced that the only things
that we would like to launch from the Malaysian
`launching pad’ are new and more innovative financial
products to whet the increasing appetite of fellow
Muslims for more Syari’ah compliant financial
instruments. Continue reading “ディナールに関するマハティール首相の演説②” »
THE 20TH AL BARAKA SYMPOSIUM FOR ISLAMIC ECONOMIES（THE SHERATON IMPERIAL HOTEL, KUALA LUMPUR／2001年６月25日）
It is a great pleasure for me to be invited to
officiate the 20th Al Baraka Symposium for Islamic
Economy this morning. I am informed that this is the
first time this symposium is held outside of the Middle
East. We are indeed honoured that Kuala Lumpur has been
chosen as the venue for this year’s symposium. The
significant number of eminent speakers and Syariah
scholars that are gathered here will, I am sure,
produce stimulating and constructive deliberations.
Considering your contributions to the world of Islamic
banking and finance, I’m confident that the symposium
will achieve its noble objectives. Continue reading “ディナールに関するマハティール首相の演説①” »
Use Of Gold Dinar Advocated For Trade Between OIC Members
BANGI, Aug 27 (Bernama) — The use of the gold dinar for trade among the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries should be seriously considered as earlier advocated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom said the current financial system, based on currency notes, has many drawbacks and has resulted in poverty, environmental damage, output and distribution monopoly, unemployment, crime and vice. Gulf Times, Arab nations ’need to revert to gold dinar’ Discuss
A financial expert has called for abolishing the current paper money system and returning to gold currencies instead, saying it was the only way out of the current financial crisis.
Dr Mohamed Syafii Antonio, a member of the Islamic Banking Committee at the Central Bank of Indonesia, said the current paper money system had opened the door for the fraudulent acts that have brought down giant financial institutions on Wall Street. Continue reading “ディナールに関する報道（2009年6月15日）” »
